Khalia Top is a stunning meadow perched at an elevation of 3,500 meters above sea level, offering uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic views of the mighty Panchachuli peaks, Nanda Devi, and the vast Himalayan range. Located near Munsiyari in the Kumaon region, it is one of the most rewarding short treks in Uttarakhand.
The trek passes through lush rhododendron and oak forests that burst into a riot of colors during spring. In winter, the trail transforms into a magical snow-covered wonderland. The summit meadow is a perfect camping spot where you wake up to golden sunrises painting the Himalayan peaks.
Pick up from Kathgodam early morning. Drive through the beautiful Kumaon hills via Almora, Bageshwar, and Birthi Falls. Arrive at Munsiyari (2,298m) by evening with stunning views of Panchachuli peaks at sunset. Check in to hotel. Overnight stay.
After breakfast, begin the trek from Munsiyari towards Khalia Top base camp. The trail winds through beautiful forests of oak, rhododendron, and deodar. Enjoy the changing landscape as you gain altitude. Set up camp at the base (approx. 3,000m). Evening bonfire with tea and snacks.
Early morning start for the summit push. Trek through alpine meadows to reach the Khalia Top summit (3,500m). Spend time soaking in the breathtaking 360-degree views of Panchachuli, Nanda Devi, Rajrambha, and Hardeol peaks. Return to base camp for lunch. Descend to Munsiyari by evening.
Rest day in Munsiyari. Visit Birthi Falls, the fascinating Tribal Heritage Museum showcasing the culture of the Bhotiya tribe, and Nanda Devi Temple. Enjoy local Kumaoni cuisine. Visit Thamri Kund or Maheshwari Kund if time permits. Farewell dinner.
After a leisurely breakfast, begin the drive back to Kathgodam. Stop at scenic viewpoints along the way. Arrive at Kathgodam by evening. Trip ends with beautiful memories of the Himalayan adventure.
